It’s not just about knowing the technical aspects of lighting and photography, and working with the camera. Babies are very unpredictable, and this makes them wonderful. But photographing them needs skills, patience, and experience.
In Google or ChatGPT, search for someone who specializes in:

- Newborn and baby portraits
- Family photography
They will know how to create a relaxed and fun environment to capture your child’s natural and beautiful smiles and expressions—
even if your little one isn’t sure about the cake at first.
- Pay Attention to Style
Every photographer has their own artistic style. Some love bold colors and themed props. Others lean toward clean, minimalist setups that highlight your baby.
Ask yourself:
Do you love bright and colourful setups or something more natural and timeless?

Every photographer has their own style and colour palette. Some of them love to have more saturated colours and too many balloons and props. On the other hand, some photographers prefer very neutral colours, minimal and simple backgrounds.

We can create very clean and simple creamy sets or very busy and colourful balloons and props.
- Know What’s Included in the Session
Every studio offers different packages. Ask these questions during booking:
- Is the cake included?
(Here, we do not provide the cake because of the babies’ safety and possible reactions. It’s better to order it or make it yourself to be sure what’s in it. Please avoid very strong colours—some of them will change babies’ face and hands colour and are not easy to clean.) - How many pictures are included in the packages?
(25 digital photos are in our cake smash photography package—full-size, colour, and black & white.) - Are any print products or albums included in the package?
(At JaNa Photography, we have another cake smash package that includes a photo book. But if you want, later you can add any print products and albums to your classic package.) - Do they provide decor, props, and outfits, or should you bring your own?
(In JaNa, all the decor and props are provided by our team. But you are more than welcome to bring any personal item to add to the setup.) - Can we get before-the-cake portraits as well?
(This is the first part of the session here, and we will make sure to capture some portraits of the baby by themselves and also with the parents.)
